The UN has issued a report claiming that UAE has violated international sanctions on the sale of arms to war-torn countries after sending weapons to Somalia.

The monitors said that providing Somalia with arms threatens peace in the region due to the increasing danger of piracy.

UAE is building a military base in Somalia, in Barbara city. Monitors said that building the base and moving arms to Somalia is a violation of the embargo.

The UN stressed that any foreign contributions to official Somali institutions must have their agreement first.

The monitors said that EU drones recorded an Emirati ship was seen close to Somali beaches and that two boats exchanged shipments with it.

They added that they have evidence that the UAE ship could have been carrying illegal weapons and banned material to Somalia before it was intercepted.
